Many years ago, when I first started here at JR Direct, I had the privilege of driving one of three vehicles full of food to our local food bank. At that time the South Delta Food Bank was still in its infancy – really just one shipping container in the back of the Lighthouse Church. We pulled up with some of our JR Direct staff and proceeded to pack that container with food.

I’ll never forget that day. They thanked us profusely. It was so much food that they were able to help other food banks and families in other areas. I was so proud of the JR Direct team and the impact we were able to make right here in our community. I was hooked, and we have made a delivery every year since!

Over the past few years, as the economy shrunk, we noticed how our little food bank grew and grew. Not just in demand for the food bank itself, but in services. The Food Bank and the Church work very hard together, not just to offer food but support services and counselling. In some ways it has become a weekly drop in center for adults and families. It’s such a valuable resource in our community and one we are proud to support.

Our donations today don’t go as far as they used to, but we know that the great people at the South Delta Food Bank ensure that it finds its way to the members of our community that need it most. If you would like to make a cash or food donation, they can be delivered in person Monday through Friday (8am – 4pm) to:

South Delta Food Bank
5545 Ladner Trunk Road
Delta, BC V4K 1X1

You can also make a donation by Cheque (payable to “South Delta Food Bank”). Tax receipts for your donation will be provided. We encourage you to make a donation this holiday season and help those in need in your community.

I’ve been lucky to see first-hand the impact that a donation can have and see what supporting the community truly looks like. I encourage everyone to look for ways you can make a difference in your community this holiday season. I am certain you will love the experience.
